Microsoft My Phone - It's Open Beta!!!

Microsoft seems to be unveiling a theme lately.

Windows 7 goes public beta.
Windows 7 does remote media sharing (Mesh)
Live Mesh gets more updates.
Xbox Live got cheaper.
ZuneHD pictures get leaked.
MyPhone becomes public beta.

Microsoft seems to be preparing for something huge as we've been saying all along. The timing of Windows 7 due by the holidays along with a new WinMo OS, plus a new Zune, all offering singular integration via Live credentials seem to be more than just coincidental. Within the past 30 minutes of this blog post, Microsoft has unleashed MyPhone the once closed private alpha as public beta for anyone running a Windows Mobile phone to download and use. I've personally been using this service since day one and I've loved it. It's great for people that don't have Exchange accounts, now regardless of the fact that I/we have our own...this program serves its purpose brilliantly.

So what is MyPhone?
MyPhone is a program for Windows Mobile that syncs your calender, contacts, pictures, music, videos, documents, storage cards, tasks, and text message history all to an Microsoft server that you can log into with a LiveID. From your phone you can setup automated backups or manual if you don't have an unlimited data plan and worried about going overboard. I have my phone on automated backup (I have unlimited data). Everyday at noon my phone double checks my phone against what is up in the cloud and updates accordingly. It's a background service, the program doesn't actually do anything fancy, simply a background app and for that...I love it.

What's more, let's say I'm not near my phone for example...I left the phone in my car and I'm inside at a friend's place. I could log into myphone.microsoft.com and update changes to any of these features from the website and they would be pushed down to my phone. As long as the program is running on my phone at the time, the new information is pushed. Those of you with Exchange accounts take this process to be "automagical," but for the rest of the world who may not have the luxuries of an Exchange server. MyPhone fills the gap for the individual.

Finally, the worst happens.
You lose your phone or your phone gets stolen. While this is no doubt beyond unfortunate, all is not lost (your data is not lost, that's the joke here.) If you choose to drop another $100 plus something on a Windows Mobile phone, you can install MyPhone and pull all your data down instantly, and like magic your life is restored...minus the money you spent on the phone. That sucks either way.

Here's the link to get going.
