Saving Money, Protecting Technology.

This isnt a huge tech story at all, it's actually an incredibly personal one. While I myself am a computer nerd, and a senior studying network engineering at Purdue University...I am sort of this part time musician. Come on, I'm a guy we all got side hobbies.

My primary computer is an Apple iMac running Windows Vista. While its business central for me, it also is the host to several audio applications to dj with. With all the traveling that I do with it, I realized that the cardboard box that Apple ships the iMac in wasn't going to survive. Thus it only made sense to simply build my own box. I know a graphic designer who took the liberty of painting for this for me, and this box only cost $30 to make. Wood, hinges, screws, and Road Ready handles.

It weighs 20lbs, which means it weighs just as much as the iMac. Bringing the total for 40lbs to transport and not to mention some added style. It is the EXACT same dimensions as the box Apple ships, I've taken a few pictures so you can see some closeups as well as a single improvement I made to the inside. The cardboard box is...well just cardboard, but with my box since I wanted to use Road Ready handles. I actually needed to chisel wood out, unfortunatley I need thicker wood than what the box currently was. I added wood to the inside of the case to allow more room to chisel/carve into AS well as provide stopping/support for the foam inserts that shipped with Apple. Now the top peice that the keyboard box rests in, rests on these wooden inserts which fit precisely with the iMac inside.
