Microsoft Courier Update - My Face Melted

More information is trickling out about Microsoft's new booklet device, Courier. In the same fashion that Surface is running on top of Windows, rumors are now flying left and right that it appears Courier is running on top of Windows 7. A huge step in the right direction in both cases as it shows Windows - truly. can. do. anything. Then again, Surface has always been garnered more attention from a hardware perspective rather than the software.

A new video of the Courier device, seems far more real than proof-of-concept/this sorta thing ain't happening for 10 years kind of video. Then again, very informed, reliable sources have confirmed, CONFIRMED a mid 2010 release. Does anyone see the possibility of a concurrent launch with Office 2010? Ehh Ehh? Food for thought.

Now I'm not one to go on rumors like this, and I won't believe anything until i see it. But if 2010 is real? Awesome. I hope they can beat Apple to the market. Speaking of Apple, anyone see any familiar websites in this new video demo? (Or just look at the image at the top). You have "Keep 10 Songs a Month" and "Small Talk." Microsoft certainly knows how to take just the right phrases out of context.

It also appears Microsoft has every intention of going Xbox/Zune development, in that they will build the hardware themselves. In which case, I gotta say - Microsoft is becoming rather inline with Apple's approach. Not necessarily a bad thing, last time I checked Microsoft doesn't seem to put up insane rigors to get applications approved. But who knows where the software/apps on the device will go, all that could be assumed is that is going to be completely free to develop/write/contribute to much like the rest of the entire Microsoft family.

Microsoft also seems to be wasting no time with a push for the collaborative movement. Live Mesh, Zune song sharing, Xbox360 gaming, Office 2010 Real-Time Collaboration, why should a new device be any exception? Near the end the video goes on to explain that you'll be able to publish journals to the web, share with friends, and let others download in PDF and Powerpoint formats. Your friends would also be able to edit these documents, and changes get pushed to your device. Sounds like Live Mesh found a new friend.

Let's just be honest, when documents get "leaked" they are being "leaked" with good reason.
